We cut the sealant and release the frame rather than levering it out, because levering an old frame out of hardened sealant is exactly how tile gets chipped, and the tile is usually the expensive part. The substrate is then cleaned back so new glass seals against a sound surface. Occasionally that reveals something the old frame was hiding, most often failed grout or a damaged pan edge. If it does, we will show you before continuing rather than sealing a new enclosure over a problem that resurfaces later as a leak.

Often, but not always, and the honest answer depends on the room. Bathrooms of that era are more compact than modern masters, and a hinged frameless door needs a couple of feet of clear floor to swing into, which sometimes collides with the vanity. Where it does, a frameless slider on a top-hung header or a fixed single-panel screen gives you the same look without the swing. All three are custom fabricated to the opening, so the constraint is your floor plan rather than the product.
